Our History
Wagg's Imperial Laundry was established in Midland, Ontario on January 1, 1902 by Newton Kirby Wagg.
A horse and buggy was the means of transportation that gathered up tablecloths, bedding, clothes and whatever else that needed cleaned and pressed. Many ships and cruise boats landed at Midland Harbour and Wagg's Laundry looked after all their laundry needs.
In the 1930's, dry cleaning was added as a new service, which led to the opening of other plants in Barrie, Orillia and Gravenhurst. In addition to that, during the 1950's and 60's, Laundromats were the craze and also opened in those towns. Newton's son Murray headed up this growth during the 40's, 50's and 60's.
Linen Rental was introduced by Murray's son Bill in the 60's and remains with us today.
Bill's son Kirby is the fourth generation to operate Wagg's Services and we have surpassed our 100th year milestone and we welcome all customers, friends and acquaintances to tour our modern facility in Orillia's Progress Park.
Wagg's Services specializes in mat rentals; more than 90% of dirt and grime in public buildings is tracked in from the outside. One square yard of commercial carpeting can accumulate over one pound of dirt a week and two pounds during wet weather; the cost of removing one pound of dirt from a building can exceed $500. Only 10% of dirt is removed from floor mats with a vacuum cleaner; THAT IS WHY YOU NEED OUR FLOOR MAT RENTAL SYSTEM!!!
